The Lovely Bones Is a Great Film

Have you seen The LovThe Lovely Bonesely Bones yet? If you haven’t, you totally should. It’s a very well done and creative film from what could have been a real downer story.

It’s about a fourteen-year-old girl who was murdered.

Bad news, right?

You’d think so, and it’s certainly a tragedy in anyone’s dictionary of life, but the way the story in The Lovely Bones was presented, it was less sad and more about letting go. It was in some regard about finding the killer, but we know who he is right from the start.

It was more about what happens, well… happens, and we have to realize that death is just another episode in our cosmic journey.  To really be alive, we need to embrace death as just another step in our entity development.  I believe in that, BTW, and if you do, too… you’ll like this film.

But even if you just like pretty scenery, the visuals were incredible. Peter Jackson’s direction and imagination about what we can expect in the afterlife were amazing. Lots of color, and totally awesome visuals.

I have to admit that I haven’t read the book, The Lovely Bones, which I intend upon doing, toot suite. If you have, know that the film doesn’t completely follow it, according to my daugher, who did read it a couple of years ago. Suzie is much more virginal, shall we say, and the violence of the murder is toned down considerably.

The acting was good on the part of Susan Sarandon, who’s really good in almost everything, but the rest of the cast did a good job, as well. Mark Wahlberg was well… Mark Wahlberg.  He’s OK, but not really convincing as the grieving father. Rachel Weiss pissed me off, so that’s what she was supposed to do. You’ll see why when you see the film. And the other kids were good, but I particularly liked the character played by Rose McIver. Gritty, gutsy, and well done. She rocked!

Anyway, I give it 4 of 5 stars, but only because it deviated from the real story. Otherwise, it might have been a 5. Great film! Go see it!
